How really is this possible in an age where leaders employ a tyrant approach or in some cases where one is quite convinced the the ruling government is clueless/selfish?
The Bible says:
1. Pray for those in authority.
A good read of the book of Kings opens us up to the theocratic government in Israel. The kings were often anointed by prophets, but many of them ended poorly. Ps. 89:38-39 is one where the psalmist is having a conversation with God about His abandonment of the anointed one, “you have defiled his crown in the dust” he says. It is important that we pray for our leaders. A good leader makes a happy nation.
2. Enjoy Freedom Under Authority
Human authority is an institution of human interaction created by God. It is in obeying this authority that one enjoys true freedom. The consequences of not obeying them puts you in bondage. Worse, a guilty conscience is more painful than a night in prison.
Rules are there as guides. Laws are there to help us know what’s right. However, when we act out of love, we will have no problem with rules and laws. We’ll think about the inconvenience we’ll cause others if we simply follow our own whims.
