It’s a Character Issue

Behaviour issues aren't always rebellion. Whatever rules the heart of a child is what informs his character per time.

It is not every time a child does something wrong that we should connect it to rebellion. Sometimes it is an indication of the need for character development.

Character however, is formed by what occupies the core of a child’s heart – or simply put, what he or she worships! We could argue that everything a child does; every moment of his life is worship. There’s something always ruling the heart of your child. That thing controls his thoughts, desires, choices, and actions in the given moments of life.

Every character moment gives you an opportunity to talk about the most important thing in his life: worship. Every moment in his life is meant to be done with God in view.

You shouldn’t just hunt for rebellion – looking to spot what is wrong so that you can pep-talk him out of it. Rather, as difficult as it sounds, you should anticipate, with joy, those character moments (good or bad as it may seem), because they give an opportunity to discuss what is at the centre of your child’s heart.
