Father-Daughter Problem – Any Hope?

I am quite curious as to why many of the young ladies of my generation seem to have a sour relationship with their fathers. What went wrong? What happened to the days when his heart warmed up when she smiled or when she ran into his waiting arms ...? Wait first, were there ever moments like that sef? ... I pause and think about the sweet moments I am sharing with my daughter and pray ... that she will never understand what 'Daddy issues' mean.

The subject of parenting has won my curiosity for several months now – not just because I am a parent, but because God has put it as a burden on me – and I’m grateful though that His yoke is easy.

Matthew 11:28-30

For instance, I am quite curious as to why many of the young ladies of my generation seem to have a sour relationship with their fathers. What went wrong? What happened to the days when his heart warmed up when she smiled or when she ran into his waiting arms as he walked through the door? Wait first, were there ever moments like that sef? As I write this, I pause and think about the sweet moments I am sharing with my daughter and pray (because it apparently takes more than sheer determination) that she will never understand what ‘Daddy issues’ mean.

I am even searching the scriptures for the ideal father-daughter relationship and it’s taken quite a search. I see good pictures of father-son (David & Solomon), mother-son (Eunice & Timothy, Rebecca & Isaac). But it seems we must churn up a lot of dust before we can find a good father-daughter relationship. So far, the only good example I have been able to uncover is the relationship between Caleb and Acsah (which still has an arranged marriage as its snag) and the indication of a cordial relationship between the Pharaoh of Egypt and his daughter, King Solomon’s wife.

I am, perhaps, as puzzled as you are. And only asking these questions because I seek answers. I am still searching for answers. If you have any, please share.
