Could you throw more light on the rules regarding plural of chief and thief?
While the plural of chief is CHIEFS and the plural of thief is THIEVES. There is yet an explanation to why we have this variation. In fact we have three variations for pluralising words that end in -f. There is -fs, -ves and words that take both sides. Other explanations indicate that one type is for written text, while another is in speech. But at this point, we simply need to be familiar with them.
